Visitor centre Amsterdamse Bos
An unusual piece of woodland nature, near a freeway, airport and the metropolis of Amsterdam. Around four million visitors annually. Providing recreationalists and nature lovers, young and old, with directions the Amsterdamse Bos, is a principal function of the brand new visitor centre.
Architects Gunnar Daan Doeke van Wieren from Burdaard designed an oval building with walls of wood and metal, which beautifully fitted the woodland backdrop. Two imposing buildings with beautifully finished oval forms and outer walls of wood and glass were situated at the end of Bosbaanweg. The unique upper support structures were made of steel, with concrete floors and stabilizing walls.
Constructors Haring & Van Wiegen were brought in to actualize the design of the Frisian architect office. The Nibbixwoud company started building the visitor centre; where the reception is open for questions, information, maps and route planners. A visitor centre, including food and beverage possibilities, was fully achieved.
